Real Kid
IF KIDS SHOWS WERE REAL!
What are our wireless kids up to?
It seems that parents are no longer the educators. Digital technology is now an essential part of our childrens education, communication and socialisation. This is leaving many parents who have very little understanding of our digital world frustrated.
Our tech savvy kids are now able to send texts faster than most of us can use a key board. They are also becoming more alert to parents who are learning to monitor digital devices. Instant messaging and Texting has become a language all of its own and our kids have worked out a way to communicate leaving parents in the dark.
Kids have been creating their own languages for years and texting and instant messaging is just the latest trend. Words like "PAW" means parents are watching, "MOS" mums over my shoulder, CD9 means Code 9 for parents are around.
With texting characters limited to (160) shorthand is required, and the education department says is damaging our childrens literacy skills. One student recently yelled out the "OMFG" in class. When he was asked to apologise he simply said "no", I didn't say anything wrong. I only said 4 random letters. After being told he would be sent to the "HOS" Head of school, he did apologise.
Teen-favoured acronyms

There are also sentences coding drugs. "Weed" could be coded as "Did you get the orange drink I made you?" Their friends understand this but know one else does. I don't know about you but I find this all very frightning. How on earth are parents spose to keep up with all this jargon and protect their kids.
I guess it comes down to hoping your parenting skills have done some good when it comes to rights and wrongs, and you continue to maintain a good relationship with your child. You need to get involved and have fun with your children learning how texting and instant messaging works, you will get a better understanding and be spending valuable time with your children.
