Romance With A Historical Twist
You'll find probably as many elements to the ancient and romantic countryside of Greece as there's Greeks. The civilization shares a lot with that of other Mediterranean nations, which should come as no shock, since Greeks founded a lot of colonies around the Mediterranean that went on to be celebrated cities including Naples (Neapolis), Syracuse and Marseilles (Massalia). The Greeks were such a enormous weight on the Romans and other Mediterranean citizens that the whole society of the Classical age is known as Hellenistic (after Ellatha, which is what the Greeks call their own country).
Attempting to choose where to book a vacation rental in this romantic country could take quite a lot of time by itself. Greece inns are scattered all through a blinding array of historical ruins, a number of which date back 5000 years. One could conceivably expend months only trying to decide which museums to go to.
Of course, while Athens home of the Parthenon and the Acropolis as well as countless cultural institutions is the heart of it all, the actual attractions are positioned in the mountainous interior and valleys were ancient armies fought legendary battles, as well as the romantic islands of the Aegean, where Greece villa rentals are situated right adjacent and even above quaint kafeneos.
Nonetheless, you'll likely desire to begin your tour of Greece in the nation's cultural and political capital. Most of the country's most well-known attractions are within a couple of blocks of Greece romantic travel inns situated off the primary streets of this active city, and the Acropolis is just one of them. The National Archaeological Museum is another leading attraction, featuring artifacts and artwork from the Bronze Age Mycenaean age and the mystifying and exotic Minoan civilization of Crete (who weren't Greek, by the way) through the Byzantine Period and into contemporary times. Other places worth touring in Athens include the Agora, the city's ancient marketplace, and the Kallimarnaron, home of the first Olympic Games.
Heading out towards the islands, you'll come across historic Psara and Chios, just off the Turkish coast. Reserving beach vacation rentals is fairly easy on these remote islands (the vast majority of which did not even have telephone service until the 1970s). These are the islands where the fifth Century BC poet Homer composed his Iliad and the Odyssey, our source for the semi-legendary account of the Trojan War. On the other side of the Hellenic Peninsula within the Ionian Sea off of the country's west coast is the scenic isle of Kefallonia, romantic locale of the recent film Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
There are frequent ferries to all of Greece's islands, but you'll be wanting to check the schedules carefully. One of the best site we have found for this is located at http://www.ferries.gr/ , an English-language site where visitors can find out which ferries go where and even reserve passage. These islands are brilliant jumping-off places for side trips to unique Istanbul and also the Italian boot heel as well the historic isle of Malta.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Book recommendations? What books have inspired you?
Hi, I was a keen reader as a child and read some real classics that I thoroughly enjoyed, like "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Of Mice and Men", "The Old Man and the Sea", "1984", "The Catcher in the Rye", "The adventures of Huckleberry Finn" "Captain Corelli's Mandolin"...These books were inspiring and enjoyable for me.
and recently I have got back into the habit of reading (after maybe 4-5 years of not picking up a novel!)....I picked up "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" and loved it....I'm reading "Papillon", "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Grapes of Wrath".
I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of some other classics?.... because maybe by sharing with you the kind of books I enjoy, you can point me in the direction of some other classics I'd enjoy.
Or generally, any great books you loved that inspired you and would truly reccomend. Thanks in advance
