does anyone know about vintage violins?
i run a consignment business in ohio and recently aquired a violin from a consigner it is marked with a tag inside joseph geiger canton ohio oct 22 1906 . does anyone know the value or have any history on his violins . it is a 4/4 violin made from tiger maple and looks to be in great condition . also aquired a very nice vintage banjo uke that is unmarked .
the makers name was joseph geiger born 1848 in holmes county ohio he mde violins in canton ohio around 1906 to 1908 but i can not find out anything else out about him

can't say much about the banjo uke - if it doesn't have a full size banjo pot - it probably isn't a whole lot - depending on how its made maybe 150 - however, if it is hand made it could be worth more....a lot of banjo ukes were factory...

This price is just based on vast browsing and buying various violins on ebay - it would probaby sell for around 600-800 if you put it on ebay ready to play, have it all cleaned up, with a low start or modest reserve, and post a sound sample of it being played by a violinist/fiddler...
make sure you get really good clear pictures of every angle you can think of if you are thinking of putting it on ebay.
because something sells on ebay for that price - does not mean that it is what it is worth it could be worth less or a whole lot more...mostly because you can't assume something is original on ebay - so you gamble. that is what i based my price on.

of course your best bet would be to get it authenticated - that would probably be the only way you would get the price that the maker would fetch.
