Frequently Asked Questions...
Has anyone heard of a "Buffet Crampon" brand of Baritone Saxophone?
I'm looking to buy a Baritone Saxophone and came across one that I really like the looks of, except I've never heard of the brand name; Buffet Crampon. The sax is almost $4000 so its not cheap, but I want to make sure it is a good quality horn too.

Answer:
I'm familiar with Buffet Crampon. I'm a clarinet player and that is the top of the line clarinet. They make a good saxophone, but I don't think it's the top of the line brand, like it is for clarinets.

A budget clarinet
When my lovely wife Vanessa gave birth to beautiful twin girls I was quite overcome. It was the happiest moment of my life. Neither I nor Vanessa have posh, very well-paying jobs but we try to see to our daughters' every small need. We were quite ok with the amount I earn but Vanessa started working and I consented just for the little extra comforts that we'd be able to provide for our two little ones.
Time seemed to fly as they grew up and stood watching as proud parents the first day they went to school. Both are different as Karen is the studious type whereas Katrina is outdoor type, interested in sports.
It was Karen's request for a clarinet that caused us to have a moment of panic. The main concern was that could we afford a clarinet for our daughter. The musical instruments were too costly during our days. But to my relief I saw several affordable options when I searched the web for . I never pushed Karen to choose the contra bass clarinet as she needed a standard learner's instrument.
Vanessa and I talked and came to the conclusion our budget was around $1000 – that's what we spent sending Katy to netball academy last summer – and we looked at the clarinet for sale section on the web closely for ideas.
I had spoken to Karen's teacher who told us what she would need, so we rapidly dismissed the Buffet crampon clarinet range, the top line instruments, and the Buffet R13 clarinet selection, and looked for a decent Buffet E11 clarinet, and there it was: a great deal at under $900 complete with stand and silver plated keys, and a guarantee of quality!
I enjoy playing the piano along with my daughter when she practises her clarinet lessons. We paid for some professional lessons in addition to those she has at school to get her into the swing of things, and she practices for two hours a day. Interestingly enough Katrina too has developed interest in music and is trying to make up her mind on either the harmonica or the flute.
